Reclaiming Time and Space for Reflection, Building Power and Liberation

Participatory workshops, collage, photography

A community engaged project in which the artist collaborated with 20+ grassroots labor rights organizations in the L.A region to take photographs and make zines.

By creating hand made curated art boxes consisting of art supplies such as disposable cameras, sketchbooks, collage materials etc., the artist inspired working class communities to share their lived experiences.  The project included planning workshops, and teach-ins with disability and healthcare activists. For many people it was their first time making art, and the interventions were a deliberate act of reclaiming time for reflection and building power. Community members responded to prompts and incorporated their own photos into the collages they made. The artist brought all the work into a single zine to distribute it back into the community.
